MEDIAEDGE is the new name for the company that began as Canopus in the early 1980’s. From the beginning we have been leaders in video technology. Our engineers were involved in developing some of the video codecs and streaming technologies that are still in use today. Our early product emphasis was providing video graphics cards for computer aided design and Hollywood animation systems. We also created the popular ADVC line of video format converters to help people convert and transition from composite, to S-VHS, component, and iEEE1394 (firewire). Our RexEdit non-linear editing software (now called EDIUS) was one of the world’s first digital editing software platforms. Our SVS LAN streaming solution was one of the first IP video streaming solutions, offering content management and distribution through our LEB encoder and STB decoder appliances. For a period of time Canopus was owned by Grass Valley and Thompson Electronics before the Canopus founders repurchased the company and rebranded it MEDIAEDGE. Throughout our history some of the world’s largest Cable TV, private digital broadcast networks, Television shopping networks, retail digital signage networks, grocery store digital merchandising, and manufacturing plant communication networks have relied on our solutions. Today we still offer LAN streaming solutions for campuses, Cable TV broadcast solutions (including LEB Pro EX encoders that enable closed-caption via HD-SDI), digital signage, security camera recording, and signal distribution, digital merchandising, HDMI and SDI converters, QDCAM slow-motion cameras, and highlight monetization solutions.
